North Devon Golf Courses

North Devon plays host to many challenging golf courses, from the famous twin championship links courses of the Royal North Devon Golf Club and Saunton Sands Golf Club, to a variety of other local country courses, supported by an extensive professional driving range at the Portmoor Golf Club near Barnstaple.

Surf and Water Sports

The nearby Westward Ho!, Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe beaches with their extensive sand areas have earned their world class reputation for surfing and other sea sports. Wind and kite surfing, as well as kite buggying are now popular pastimes which are also taught locally alongside traditional surfing

The Royal North Devon Yacht Club at Instow provides top class facilities for those who wish to sail.
There is a modern public slipway at Appledore to provide sea access for those who wish to bring their own boat or jet-ski.

Cycling the Tarka Trail

The old railway line from Barnstaple to Mere has been converted into an excellent hard surface for cycling trips (or walking). There are loads of local cycle hire shops, with tandems and trailers. There are many pubs along the route to quench your thirst and enjoy a relaxing day out.

Coastal Path

There is a well defined and sign posted public footpath along the whole of the North Devon Coast. This is a wonderful way to take in the rugged cliffs, headlands and beaches of this incredible coast.

The Big Sheep

When you need to keep the kids occupied for a whole day, this local attraction with loads of outdoor and indoor activities is just the thing. Featuring "Ewetopia" (a giant indoor play area) and animal demonstrations, including sheep racing and duck herding by sheep dogs, The Big Sheep will ensure your little ones (and their guardians) will get a great night’s sleep after an activity-filled day.
